Sharepoint Installation Questions
I have an HP DV7-1175nr with Vista Home Premium and an MSDN subscription. My Vista disk labeled July 2008 Vista with SP1 will not upgrade this to Ultimate.

1. Running the upgrade while entering the key and selecting the option to update the install process returns an error "An error has occurred Windows installation will have to restart"
2. Running the upgrade bypassing the authentication simply disables the upgrade option.
There is plenty of disk space (200GB) and I am selecting the correct 64 bit version of Ultimate.

Please help. I need to upgrade so I can use Virtual PC 2007 for a Sharepoint Development Server.
Hi, I have Sharepoint Portal 2003 Server installed on one server, about 1 GB DB. I want to test uninstalling it (I have it replicated on a test box), of course creating a backup with the backup data utility and then reinstalling and restoring it. I uninstalled it completely, reinstalled it and went into the backup/restore utility however I am at a standstill because I get all these errors like there is no portal site found to restore it to. Is what I'm doing possible, and if so what are the right steps (having the backup SP files of course) in restoring a portal site completely from a fresh install of the SP Portal 2003 server program on that replicated {Replicated name/static ip and everything} machine?
I have Windows XP Media Center. I have automatic updates turned on for Windows XP, and I'm getting the notice that updates are available. I choose to install them, but then they all fail.

These are the updates that are failing installation.

Security Update for Microsoft Publisher 2002 (KB950129)
Security Update for Microsoft Office XP (KB947866)
Security Update for Office XP (KB920816)
Security Update for SharePoint Team Services (KB911701)
Security Update for Office XP (KB944423)
Security Update for Microsoft Word 2002 (KB954463)

Any help is appreciated, thank you.
If no, is there any workaround w/o sharepoint? I'm facing a situation that in my department, there is only one or 2 people need to generate the form, it makes sense to have InfoPath installed on their machines. However, those who don't need to generate the forms, just need to fill out the forms, i don't want to install InfoPath on their machines (just to save some money). I'm trying to see if users without InfoPath installed on their machines can fill out the infopath-generated forms (electronically and no sharepoint involved)
i recently downloaded a vista upgrade but when i try and upgrade from XP media center to Vista Home Premium, it checks compatibility and then comes up with:

Close Windows installation, go to Programs, and uninstall the following programs:

o Windows SharePoint Services

I don't have windows sharepoint services and cannot find any trace of it on my computer.
I don't particularly want to do a clean install as i will have to backup all of my files.

Anyone know what to do?
I have this problem with the default profile in microsoft windows xp. When I configure the system and copy the configured profile, let's call it temp1, back to the default profile the following happens.

1. When I log into windows under any other username/profile than temp1 when trying to make changes in excel and word the username of the modified is always temp1. This is also when editing documents from sharepoint team services web pages.
2. I run office as the temp1 user to configure office so I can copy it back to the default profile so office does not need to install for every user.
3. When I decided not to configure the temp1 profile and copy it back to default profile, i ran office as an administrator and was able to use word, outlook, and excel. When I logged back in as any other user the computer asks to have the source media for office. I have already installed Microsoft Office 2003 Enterprise with all the service packs and updates installed.

Any ideas to make work?
The full error is:
Failed to register SharePoint services. An exception of type System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException was thrown. Additional exception information: DDL statement is not allowed.

I know this has something to do with SQL 2005, but I don't know much about SQL. I started with a clean install. Anyone know????? Please?? Oh, also, I am working on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. We also have one more program running with SQL capabilities, Protection Pilot. I don't know if that makes a difference.
i do not have windows sharepoint services on my laptop, but vista seems to not install because of that program? what to do????

Ok, so we have a server with Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 installed. We want to take all the sites and everything and archive them (preferrably on a removable medium). Then we want to clear everything and install Sharepoint Server 2007. So my question is, what's the easiest way to export the sites from Sharepoint Portal Server 2003? Preferrably export as an image onto a removable medium.
Hi. I installed maximizer software and then tried to install sharepoint portal but the SQL database doesn't like it (I can't remember the error code but it was something like SQL client exception). I went on google and there doesn't seem to be any solutions. I'm really stuck. Any ideas?
I would like to use public freebies in the open source community, and install them within a corporate sharepoint environment.
Also, will I be able to use Expression WEB Designer with the WEB pages I have done in FrontPage? Will I also be able to FTP to the host with these new programs? Thanks.
I want to install SharePoint services on Windows Server 2003 but I was wondering if anyone knew the price? I heard it was in the 500 dollar range but how many users will that support and is there a subscription fee per month (as I heard?) Thanks.
